.Trash and new Desktop icons

I am using Gutsy. I had a problem with my trashcan, it always showed the 'trashcan full'-icon.
The content was Desktop and whenever I deleted it from trashcan, it came back in just few seconds. Decided to log in as root, deleted my .Trash directory, and made a new .Trash directory. When I log in to my user account I have icons on the desktop. These were never in the trashcan, and I dont want icons on my desktop. It is not volumes but directories in my home folder.

Anyone know what I can do to get get back my clean and nice desktop?

Yes, and remove the icons.

Please be a little clearer, these icons on your Desktop, are they files, containing data which you need to keep, or merely shortcuts.

Click on hese icons open directories. And I need these directories, but not their icons on my desktop. See my original msg for details. In Nautilus I only know how to remove icons for voloumes.

Select them, press delete.

Thank you for responding.
These are icons for directories in my home folder with important data. They appeared on my desktop when I deleted (as root) the content of my trashcan. None of these folders have ever been in the trashcan unless there are some invisible links between directories, and delete the icons w/content will seriously damage the content of my computer.

Made new directory .Desktop where I put my desktop icons. Needed to change path to one of my applications, but my desktop is clean again!
