Open up a terminal and do the following:

Type 'sudo lshw' (less the quotes) and press enter, enter your password when prompted and press enter again. It will do its business quite silently and will then spit out a long list of hardware information.

Hi,
well, if you prefer a graphical interface, GNOME has it all by installing "hardinfo" with Synaptic.
Afterwards you'll find it in system -> preferences -> system profiler and benchmark.
Enjoy.

Ah yes, and then that also has the option to neatly store the results in an html file. Which in itself can be useful.

Hi Steven,
thanks for the reply.
Yep it's a helpful tool, and of course the generated report can be converted to a textfile also to load it up for support. Additional the generating can be done selective and benchmarks can be shared.
