When I attempted to launce Google Earth after I installed DirectX(version 9.0) I was unable to. Can anyone help me with this issue?

When I attempted to launch Google Earth a dialog box appeared that provided with a list of instructions to successfully access this application. Here is a lists of steps that I followed to complete the process:

1. Installed DirectX 9.0

 When I followed these steps I was unable to launch the application. The dialog box also indicated that if I was able to install DirectX and I was unable to launce Google Earth I should try to open application in GL mode. When I attempted to launch Google Earth in GL mode it suggested to open application in DirectX Mode

After I was unsucessful with these instructions there was another process that I completed to resolve this issue

2. Click Start> All Programs> Select Google Earth> Chose Start Google Earth in Direct X Mode

After completing these steps I was still unable to launce the application.

Can someone please tell me what I did wrong or what are other steps that I can take?
