Dual booting Ubuntu w/ windows vista.

Asked by zeikooc

It seems i completely removed vista from my hdd. Now ubuntu is installed and when i try to make a separate partition for windows the partition manager is nowhere to be found. I've used the file browser and the tracker system.

Did you install gparted? It's a simple tool for managing drives. Open a terminal (apps - accessories) and type

sudo apt-get install gparted

Give your password (nothing shows). After it finishes you should have an entry in system-admin call "partition editor". Open it to view your drives.

Also, if you post the output of

sudo fdisk -l

here that would help. Note that is a small letter L at the end. If you did overwrite windows and you want it back, easiest is to just install it again and then install ubuntu making sure to use the option to resize the drive in order to preserve windows.
