screen goes blank sometimes while running blender

Asked by Niraj

hello
when i run blender i experience that screen goes black with only mouse pointer visible and my pc hangs.
it does not happen every time. Most of the times it has happened when i try to render something.
Some times in normal mode also same problem occurs.

I have a second problem that my pc gets hanged whenever i leave it idle for some time (i expect screensaver to start) or when i choose logout , lock screen or suspend option from shutdown menu

please help me

OK!

Your video card is found from:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)

Secondly try running:

metacity --replace

i dont know what would be a better alternative for your Intel card but the vesa driver is not ample if you do stuff like 3D modeling.
You cant even switch on 3D acceleration if you use vesa am I right!?
What CPU do you use? The work for rendering is almost only done by the CPU so if you want to render really big stuff but have a small CPU you know what the problem could be.
Do you use the most current blender version 2.46?
by the way the next time it crashes you should find some information about the crash in your system logfiles. you can get there by system, administration, system logfiles ( srry for the bad translation but i dont use a englisch Ubuntu).

the abrheviations in the WARNING line are something like Gnome Desktop Manager X-Server Input/Output Error.
I dont know how to fix that(:
Which package manager do you use? i updated to 2.45 with the update manager you can find it inthe synaptic package manager too.
this version is focused on stability.

well my update manager does not show any update for blender 2.44 may this is last version for 'amd-64' bit ubuntu 7.10 can you atleast tell me command to update it forcefully or reinstall latest version

no the latest version for 64bit is the current 2.46. you can download and install it on the official blender site. considering that there is still no deb. package for 2.46 but only 2.45 i would reinstall the whole blender for the 2.46 version.
"my update manager does not show any update for blender 2.44"
did you check your package sources? you need to enable the unsupported packages( gutsy-backports) too for an update to 2.45
i dont know the correct translation to englisch but you go to system, administration, package sources, updates, and there the option should be.
