laptop lid close hangs edgy 64bit

Asked by Mehul J. Rajput

Hi

I am using kubuntu 64bit edgy on Dell inspiron 6400 with intel core 2 duo. In my power management option I have marked "When laptop lid is closed" to lock my screen.

However, when I close the lid and then open it again hangs the system. Keyboard, mouse nothing will work. I then have to hard boot my system.

From what I feel the system should come back when I reopen the lid.

Regards,
Mehul

I've seen this issue on a Dell [does the 6400 come w/ATI gfx?] however it was when the laptop was attempting to go into sleep mode upon closing of the lid. Have you disabled this? I seem to recall this being a driver issue...

yes it is working with fglrx. I have selected the option of "Do
Nothing" when the lid is closed. I have configured the monitor to
switch off after 10 minutes and it is working fine with lid open. It
is switched off after 10 minutes but still all the computer does not
go in stand by.

I am not sure what should i be disabling?

I am not facing this issue in feisty. Not sure how this has happened. But it no longer hangs after lid is closed. I installed the ati driver using the following link

http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Feisty_Installation_Guide

using the alternate II with patch.
