No audio on Intel Mac Mini

Asked by Anders Wallenquist

I can't get any sound out of my speakers on a Mac Mini (Intel Dual Core, ICH7 chipset module snd_hda_intel).
The modules seem to be loaded properly, and I get no error whatsoever when I play any audio file. There's just no sound.

Alsamixer reports my card as being HDA Intel and the chip as SigmaTel STAC9221 A1.

Using Ubuntu 6.10 kernel 2.6.17-11-generic.

Anyone has a clue of what's going on?

Thanks in advance!!

Yes I have, except for the alsa-driver/kernel-compilation.

Now I have found out that Nautilus in some cases does address the sound-card. Moving the mouse cursor over a sound-file sound comes out with great distursion, after som fiddleing with alsamixer and muting/unmuting some of the output sources sound gets clear. But still no sound thru other Gnome programs, and no sound thru Firefox, flash, Rythmbox, Ekiga etc.

Hello !

What about trying this:

- Backup /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
- Add to the bottom of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base: options snd-hda-intel model=ref
- Reboot

Benoît

I have tried https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto with the latest Alsa-driver localy compiled and tried several variants of

options snd-hda-intel model=XXXX

I still cant get Gnome system sound but Nautilus "pre player" and Ekgiga gives me sound (after some fiddleing with alsamixer)

Installing Feisty Fawn Daily build 2007-03-30 made it, without any other configureing! Earlier releases of Fesity did not address this issue.

Nautilus sound preview does not work.
