what is the best way to show upcoming events on the desktop from evolution or other calendar type data

Asked by Kev

I would like to have on display on my desktop upcoming events that have been entered into either evolution of if needed something like thunderbird. I know there are widgets and gadgets and applets and the list goes on to do this but each time I have tried to tweak something like this I have stuffed my system up... Could someone please give me a few pointers in the official ubuntu hardy direction and not how too's by obscure writers.... (I stuffed my system up last time I tried something from searching the net) thanking you in advance.

Thanks I was aware of that option. I guess I am looking for something the resembles the type of display one gets on a PDA of the upcoming appointments and events. I will keep this open for a while to see if I get any other ideas. but thanks for your fast reply

I have no idea what display one gets on a PDA but have you tried Synaptic and the GTodo applet for the GNOME panel ?

Thanks Tang I looked at that but it is a todo list not calander list of events to take place today...
I found this http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/iCal+-+Now+Calendar+Screenlet?content=67186 it is close to what I am looking for but I do not like the idea of sending my personal data to some server somewhere where I have no control of...
I am looking for somthing like it but for showing upcoming events from either evolution or sunbird or lightning... as long as it has a similar display to the link shown.

Hi again, just noticed this one and remembered your problem.
http://www.gdesklets.de/index.php?q=desklet/view/121
Its in the Ubuntu repositories

I'm /guessing/ you /may/ be able to tweak it to suit.

Can you help with this problem?
