The page you refer to details security advisories for Ubuntu. They try to explain the vulnerability, the versions of Ubuntu it applies to, the packages it affects and a solution to minimize or eliminate the problem, which generally involves updating you OS.

This is why it is so important to keep your system up-to-date with regard to security updates. When the icon appears on the panel informing there are new security updates, you should act on it.

Hi OriginalOG,

You should be concerned about security, especially if you perform sensitive transactions online. It's ok to be paranoid, as long as it causes you to learn more about security. Ubuntu is configured pretty good for security out of the box. But there is always room for improvement. You can learn more about additional security measures you can take by using this great resource:

    http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/securing-debian-howto/

As Ubuntu is a debian distribution, much of it applies. It does take effort to learn.

As far as your main question about vulnerabilities, nglnx has given you the best advice. Keep your system up to date always.

You can watch the vulnerabilites as they are discovered, as Bhavani has suggested. I think you will find however, that the Ubuntu devs are pretty good about getting the security updates out in a timely fashion.

Please report back here and let me know if this Solves your question.

Thanks!

Harvey
