If you are using your computer mainly in a server role, I recomend you use the server edition:

For more information, read, http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu/serveredition

if you want to setup a web server the Server Edition would make sense. you should consider a look at Debian. Its more stable in general than Ubuntu( which is based on Debian).
good luck

many thanks

in looking at the server edition i see there are 2 versions

1) desktop
2) server addition

and for 2 computers

i take it i would use the

server version and the 64 bit versions?

many thanks

yes the server version should go with you
if you take the 64bit or the 32bit version depends on your machine but usually modern computers have a CPU with 64bit. if you run a server, the 64bit bandwidth could give you a good performance boost. if you dont worry about perfomance take the 32bit version because the disadvantage on 64bit is many programms can be only run with 32bit CPUs. but i dont know what you want to run on your server.
