I have an old inel 810, celeron 500Mhz with 256mb ram, will the ubuntu dapper support this hardware as i have the copy of this?

I have this old intel 810, celeron 500Mhz, and 256 mb ram. would like to install dapper. Is the hardware compatible to this config?

In short, 256MB is enough to run Ubuntu, but it's really the minimum you probably want to go to. If at all possible, upgrading to 512MB will really improve things.

Alternatively if you try Xubuntu - which is Ubuntu using a slightly lighter-weight desktop, might be a preferred option.

You will probably find the system takes a while to boot up, but once running is fairly acceptable. However if you start up some bulky applications like OpenOffice.org then your system is likely to crawl a bit.
