Open a terminal and enter there:

   lspci

   lsmod

and you will get output from each command

Also, does this happen with the latest release 6.10?

Yes it gets to the installation part for cdrom and refuses so abandons installation.
It might be a bad word on this forum but I have the latest Suse. Going to try that and see if the same happens.

Well hopefully it works out better, let us know how it goes. And no, it's not a bad word on here :-)

Oldgeriatric,

It seems that there is an issue with the Marvell chip-set that is included with that motherboard which should be fixed with the next Ubuntu release 7.04(in April 19th) though if you are interested in living on the edgy you can try out the 'Testing' version found at:
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/herd4
(not recommended for production machines of course, keep your data backed up :-) )
If you do decide to test it, please let us know if it works or not. Other workarounds that may work for you would be using a usb cd-drive to install the system, or an addon ide controller for you drive.

Let us know which route you decide to take and also what works/doesn't work for you.

Best Regards,
Williamts99

Thanks for all your replies very helpful. Suse worked to a point installed almost to the end and could not install Grub for which I think would be probably dodgy DVD.
I will try the testing version and see what happens. I will crack this Linux eventually. I hope!!

Tried Herd today and received 2 error messages
1. /bin/sh:can't access TTY:job control turned off

2.failed to set xfermode.

I think I might try another mobo, but not today.

Well the only other short term solution that I can think of is using another ide controller card like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16816132004

Though it may or may not be a solution for you, but it is an option until they get that chipset figured out.

I'm also using the new dg965wh board. On-board video is not supported by Ubuntu Desktop 6.10 and Server 6.06. (Server actually causes a complete hang of the system). My guess is that the MB chipset is not supported.

Can you help with this problem?
