Setting up initial Samba password again?

Asked by george_rutkay

(I was planning on upgrading my system to 8.04 but it was really messing up BADLY!! Crashing, some things just not working at all. So I went back to 7.10 and now I have to set this stuff all up again!! Grrrrr!!!)

I went through this Samba stuff before and I remember being told that before anything could connect to a Samba share on my system, first I had to use a special Samba password to "make it all happen".

The special Samba password was "sambapasswd"

But I don't remember HOW to get to that point where Samba wants this password?

I'm browsing through "My questions".......I remember being shown the following link:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpSamba

....but when I read that document, I just can't see the tidbit I'm looking for!

Help!!??

Ah, so "smbpasswd" isn't a secret password - it's a command! That's where I got messed up! Thanks!
