Try installing ndiswrapper and loading it with the Windows drivers.

Should be supported out of the box, and ndiswrapper should be your last option. According to http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=357&question=General%20Wireless
it should be supported with the madwifi drivers.

Have you tried out Network Manager? You can install it through the synaptic or the add/remove programs option, or through the terminal. Or you can just refer to the following link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/NetworkManager

What version of Ubuntu are you using, and what is the revision of the card? What is the output of the command lspci?

To get my WLAN card DWL-520 to operate I had to install the MADWIFI drivers, which are part of the restricted packages. Do a search in Synaptic for restricted and select the appropriate packages, I think there are two, restricted for 386 and restricted generic.

This should enable the WLAN card.

Just an aside, I have had a number of problems with Network Manager, only recognising the fixed network. I did manage to get it going by installing NM first and then installing the restricted packages. Unfortunately now after an upgrade it has gone belly up again.

Can you help with this problem?
