Dell Dimension E510, Ubuntu 8.04 no sound

Asked by Ricky G

I have a 2 year old Dell E510 with WinXP SP3. I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 from within Windows. When I boot the PC in Ubuntu everything is fine except the sound. I can faintly hear a little sound (very faint) but no response from the volume controls. I need some help and am brand new to Linux, but good at following "good" instructions.

Please be sure your volume are all in a high state.
Double click on top right loudspeaker and you will see a mixer please put all slider on a no zero a low level
and try.
Then go to System->Preferences->Audio and make the test.

Hope this solve your issue

To play music like mp3 you need to read and install some software...
please read: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

Always useful is the online Ubuntu doc https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/
