Redirect Documents and Pictures "Places"

Asked by Mike C

Hi there. I've made the switch from Windows to Unbuntu and am loving it. Everything is fine, with one small issue.

I have a NAS at home and was redirecting my Windows Documents and Pictures folders to the NAS so I didn't have any data sitting on my notebook. Is it possible to do the same in Ubuntu? I've mounted my NAS at /media/nas and there is a RedirectedFolders folder under that where all my data is stored (Pictures, Videos, Documents etc). So is it possible to have Documents, Pictures and Video under the Places menu redirect to a network mount? I'm sure it is, but I can't seem to find any howto's. I'm sure they're out there, but my searches aren't showing anything. I don't really want to create a full home directory on the NAS, just redirect certain folders - that way I can still work should something happen to the NAS.

thanks

mike.

Hi mike;
You can edit the configuration file, in a terminal type :

gedit .config/user-dirs.dirs

If you don't like command line you can install the ubuntu-tweak package
http://ubuntu-tweak.com/downloads
