I cannot see or hear DVDs on my laptop

I am trying for the first time to view movies on my Dell laptop. However, no audio or video is happening.

Have you enabled the Medibuntu repositories? See - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
depending on your architecture you will need
w32codecs or w64codecs
and
libdvdcss2
