Cannot open OO files from within OpenOffice

I'm using Hardy with OpenOffice 2.4 which was working fine until yesterday but for some reason the File>Open menu function (and Open button on toolbar) now causes OO to freeze and I have to force quit. OO files can still be opened via Documents folder.

Hi,
please try in a Terminal
#oowriter
if the output looks like the one in this bug #185311 you can join it if you like.

Please try to remove and reinstall your Openoffice.org

Please open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get --remove reinstall openoffice.org

or to reinstall openoffice removing also previous openoffice setting

sudo apt-get --remove --purge reinstall openoffice.org

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Removing and reinstalling solved this problem, thanks to you both for the help. For some reason the 'reinstall' command was rejected so replaced reinstall with install and it worked.
