cant boot with a ubuntu cd

my notebook boots up with a unbuntu cd and i select start or install ubunut and it starts loading kernel then just stop and gives me a : /bin/sh: cant access tty; job control turned off

please help im new to linux and im dying to get to use it.

i have a msi vr601 notebook, 120gb hdd, 1gb rab, 1.6dc, wlan, and vista basic as pre-installed os

How about alternate CD from Ubuntu? You have to download it from the nearest server from your place.

hey luky i got it to boot by plugging a flash drive in and booting. ok boot probs sloved and now for install probs. click on install and alls ok until the partition page, i select entire disk and foward not long after that it returns with an error message. something bout the partitions. any ideas?

What kind of error message did you have?
Usually I choose default partition from installation. Or perhaps your hard drive was broken?

thanks for the help but i upgraded to ubuntu 8.04 and all works great just trying to get the atheros wireless work
any ideas?

I recommend to use the latest one. Since the latest is good for the new hardware and also there're a lot of stuff from the developer, e.g Compiz Fusion. I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron too.

ok i got the wifi working with madwifi, and i installed compiz and it works great. is ther perhaps and way to get the cube to stay they way it is when u press ctrl+alt+lmb. and move it around with out having it switch to the next panel. in other words i want my desktop to be a floating cube al the time and only when i select a panel it should go to that panel. is that possible?

I'm usually use ctrl+alt+left_click to perform floating cube. Perhaps you can read this tutorial:
