Printer not registered after recent update to new version

Asked by Kasi Priya

After the recent software update and the new ubuntu version ubuntu stopped recognising my printer which is a cannon MG5760. Trying to print the printer status says unplugged or turned of. However previously it worked fine and the printer works from mac and ms. Also with my friends printe (brother)r it didn't print but only spat out endless amounts of white pages just pulling through the printer although it printed fine from my friends computer.

I assume something didn't quite work with the update or the update doesn't support those printers or whatever. As you can see I'm not a genius, just a user.

If you need to know what version I'm running or what update it was you need to tell me how I find that out. However I think I originally installed 14.4 and it was a major update or upgrade a couple of weeks ago, simply following the screen instruction. However there was also a message after the cleanup and everything that final files couldn't be downloaded and I'm not sure if the re-try worked.

Thanks for your help.

Remove the printer from Ubuntu and power off the printer. Reboot and log in. Once the system settles, power the printer on and configure.

I assume you installed the print driver from the Canon website

Hi, sorry for the wait. No didn't install any printer driver. It worked plug and play before. But I have more information now about the issue and additional issues with USB port recognition and sd card:

Printer - every time I want to print I need to remove the printer in printer setting and then find it again through add printer. As soon as the printer turns off, I have to repeat the proceedure

USB Port - connecting phone
I just noticed today neither of my phones are recognised when connected to usb. However USB works as I can connect to internet via tethering with my phone. But still it doesn't show up, cannot see files nothing. Worked fine before that mentioned update.

SD Card
Is not recognised, tried some ubuntu help stuff but have too little knowledge about the stuff. However after listing with ls -la /dev/sd* there was no additional entry after inserting the card - so again, no recognition. However I cannot say if it worked before the update as I just tried it first time.

Seems to me as if those problems are connected.

If you need more information, please let me know and also how I get the information out of ubuntu. I'm a beginner...

Thanks again
