Cannot log into any other Window Managers other than Gnome
chris@localhost:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release: 16.04
Syslog entries for attempted log-ins to different window managers I have installed
apt-cache policy * information on the installed window managers
Latest .xsession-errors file
What will happen is I'll be in the Gnome desktop, I'll log-out and at the log-in screen will select another window manager. With any of those I have installed except for Enlightenment, I'll get a totally black screen no cursor or anything. I will have to Ctrl-Alt-F7 to get back to the log-in screen. When trying Enlightenment a few seconds after I've logged in my monitor will show "No Signal" and will be the same as if I've powered the desktop down. The only way back to the system (Gnome) is to Ctrl-Alt-F1 log-in at the console and run startx. That will take me back to the Gnome Desktop but the system seems slower and running 'Top' showed that there were two Enlightenment processes running. I've done a complete shutdown and that's where I am at the present. At one time about three days ago I was able to bring up Enlightenment and the 'Guest' account can bring it up once but if logged out to try another window manager none of the others work except Xfce which did work once this afternoon.
