the power down button disappears when i click it

Asked by crazyfro

i run heron and recently ive been starting to have a problem with the (for lack of a better word) shut off button found on the top right corner of the screen. i havnt done anything to dramatic to my OS, the worse that i have done with this one is tweak the compiz fusion settings (which brings no issue on my other computers running ubuntu 8.04). basicly, the problem is that when i decide to power down for the night, and click the icon on the top right corner of the screen, the whole panel just disappears and then nothing, i can still run everything regularly (if i can still navigate to it), and the only way to shut off is to manually hold down the button on my laptop.

p.s: i dont know if this would help but the issue started after i restarted my computer after an update. right now all i can do is do regular checks on the update manager and hope :(

Hi,

Try this:
1. Go to System => Administration => Login Window.
2. Open the Local tab.
3. Make sure that Show Actions Menu is checked.

Hope this helps.

So you can get updates without any errors?

I'm wondering if the lest updates failed to complete..

Try in a terminal window

sudp dpkg --configure -a

Another interesting test would be to right-click on the top toolbar and choose "Add to Panel" and then add the Power icon again.
See if the new one has the same behaviour.

Can you help with this problem?
