Ubuntu 8.04 Live CD do not boot on my Acer Aspire 3054WXMi

Boot freez when showing progress bar.

Can Ubuntu show some text information at boot instead of progress bar?

During CD boot, hit F6(I think) for options and remove 'quiet' and 'splash' from the boot line. For hangs try adding 'acpi=off'

now ubuntu starts but no wireless and no wired network connection and no sound.

how can i get network connection?

what is acpi ?
