remove kubuntu-desktop

Asked by Asa Ayers

I installed Ubuntu, and then decided to try Kubuntu, so I installed kubuntu-desktop. I've decided I want to go back to Ubuntu. Gnome works just fine, but I have all these Kubuntu packages that I don't use (I have to scroll my menus because of the extra programs). I've removed kubuntu-desktop but how do I remove the programs that kubuntu-desktop installed?

p.s. I want to find a way that doesn't require reinstalling Ubuntu.

how did you install kubuntu-desktop? if you're lucky you installed with aptitude and you can do:

"sudo aptitude remove kubuntu-desktop"

if not http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purexfce has a list of packages apparently specific to kubuntu.
Don't forget to run

"sudo aptitude install ubuntu-desktop"

after any fix you try, but before rebooting,so you're sure you don't miss anything.
