add updates to non network laptop via cd

Asked by Kev

Hi all I know this must have been asked many times but I cannot find answers yet
I have the live cd of ubuntu to install on an old Thinkpad X21 but it is not networkable at all ( perhaps through parallel port using old laplink style cable). My main pc is connected to the net and has the updates. So can I burn the updates to Cd and then update the old laptop. if so a quick how to or pointme in the dirction would be most appreciated. I will then install the edbuntu add on for the kids. Thanks for the help in advance.

can you apply any of the updates?

Ok back
I installed the aptoncd package from cd ok it seems individual ones are ok but it is when you want the system to see the cd as a source that is when I get
Error scanning cd.... e: cannot find filename or size tag.

ok works now... I think when i installed the aptoncd_0.1-1_all.deb my system said to use the oen in the repos so I did... that version is the one mentioned above. That was where all my issues came from. I removed that one and installed the one you said and did not do an update even though the update manager says there is one there... burnt a cd of apt files and it is now as I type doing the update on my X21.... so thanks for your help... perhaps now the Ubuntu repo could be updated so this does not happen to someone else.
