installing java

I was lent the Ubuntu 7.04 C.D. it installs ok its when i come to install Java it always installs to desktop and to get it from there to fully install just wont install please tell what is the right way to install Java

Go to synaptic
System>Administration>Synaptic
Hit search and type "sun java"
And then scroll down and pick which one you want to install
