Kaffeine won't play mp3s

Asked by DDMathias

I am new to Linux (I just set it up in a dual-boot configuration) and I just installed the Kaffeine media player on my computer. I created a playlist from files I already had on one of my Windows drives. They won't play. It looks like the files open for a split second and then it moves to the next file without actually playing the song. It goes through a playlist of about a dozen songs in about 2 seconds. Any ideas?

Hi,

To play most common multimedia formats, including MP3, DVD, Flash, Quicktime, WMA and WMV, you need to install ubuntu-restricted-extras.
Go to Applications => Accessories => Terminal and execute the following command:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

For more information about restricted formats, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

Hope this helps.
