Ubuntu 14.04 will not connect to NFS v4 server

Asked by Bug Reporter 11

A fully updated Ubuntu 14.04 client with nfs-common installed fails to connect to a properly configured NFS v4 server. The error is:

mount.nfs4: access denied by server while mounting fileserver:/export/path/one

In this case the NFS v4 server is Arch Linux. Ubuntu 15.10 and Ubuntu 16.04 clients will connect. However, Ubuntu 14.04 clients are unable to connect even when all settings are verified correct.

To reproduce, start any computer with the Ubuntu 14.04 Live USB. Install nfs-common and set up the user accounts and nfs configuration properly. Attempt to connect to an NFS v4 fileserver which is running current nfs components (such as Arch Linux). The Ubuntu 14.04 client will fail with an error similar to above. The expected behavior is the ability to mount exported shares for which the client has permission.

I'm not able to report a bug. That's why I submitted the information as a question. (I'll have to submit a separate bug report or a question about not being able to file bug reports but I don't have time to do that now.) Thanks
