Lost sound

Asked by guidemeintheeyesofblindness@yahoo.com

I just upgraded to 8.04 and love it. I connected to the internet and installed the updates.

Then I lost sound. All sound. I opened a terminal and entered alsamixer and the pc speaker slot was at the bottom.

Whatever. How do reactivate the sound?

There's a whole lad of configuration option available by clicking or right-clicking the speaker/sound icon in the top-right of the screen.

Particularly take note of

Right-click and preferences
Right-click and "Open Volume Control" and then file menu, Change Device.

Hope this helps.

Try installing gstreamer package using system->Preference->synaptic system manager.

Also install the dependency packages if it asks you to install.

Steps:

1. Go to system->Preference->synaptic system manager.
2. select search button and type "gstreamer"
3. install the package

Its done. Test you sound.

I saw nothing that said "Change device." What should I change it to?

gstreamer is already installed.

No go. Still no sound.

When you right click and press preferences it will open dialog box. Right at the top there is a drop down menu. That lets you choose your audio device. You want to change it to the one that is named after your sound card. There might be others there too but you can ignore them.
