Poweroff Problem on 8.04 LTS

Asked by lkraemer

I have the following motherboard:
EVGA nForce 650i Ultra Motherboard - T1 Version, NVIDIA nForce 650i Ultra, Socket 775 , ATX, Audio, PCI Express, Gigabit LAN, USB 2.0, Serial ATA, RAID
and I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. When I click on the Top right SHUTDOWN icon my system only reboots. The only way I can get power off is to
manually switch the computers power supply off while it is trying to re-boot.

I can't find a similar problem by searching the listings.

What can I do to help get it powered off like it should?

Thanks.

Hi Ikraemer,

Please see this link first http://ubuntu.wordpress.com/2006/03/20/disable-shutdown-for-normal-users/

Its about disabling shutdown option in ubuntu. I feel that in your pc shutdown feature is mapped to reboot which is causing you this problem.

One way is to take it as an assignment. Using above tutorial, you can come to know where all the author disables for shudown, just enable them and see any where shutdown feature is pointing to reboot. If so change it else leave enable options for shutdown.

Hope this works fine and gives you a good idea to dig into Ubuntu.
