importing photos in 8.04

Asked by Peter

In 7.04 photos were imported from my camera by gthumb a great program. In 8.04 they are imported by fspot which is a confusing program to me. It also files the photos in monthly folders which takes time to reorganise. I uninstalled fspot and now cant import photos at all. Am I stuck with fspot or can the system be set to use gthumb as in 7.04?

Thanks
Peter

Hello

Open a Nautilus window, go to Edit/Preferences, choose Media Tab. In the Photos pulldown choose 'Do Nothing' or 'Ask What To Do'.

and then install gthumb

sudo apt-get install gthumb

(If its already installed find it at Applications > Graphics > gThumb Image Viewer)

Then you can use gthumb as you did in 7.04

Bhavani Shankar.

Hi Bhavani,

I had read that on another persons question. No matter what I set in the media tab, when I plug in the camera it still starts up Fspot. (As I have reinstalled it.) When it was uninstalled nothing happened. What I have to do is then cancel Fspot and under File in gThumb I can import the photos.

In 7.04 gThumb was the default importer and was started automatically when the camera was plugged in. That is what I want for my wife and visitors we often have here.

Thanks,
Peter

Hi Bhavani,

I tried that but it still starts Fspot when I plug in the camera (Even with > Nautilus > Edit>Preferences> Media Tab>Do Nothing or Ask What To Do.) .

I guess I will have to use Fspot for importing photos or cancel it when it starts up and then run gThumb using its import option. Not a big deal, just slightly annoying.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Peter

It looks like a bug. I have the same problem. Uninstalling f-spot (I don't use it) works but gthumb doesn't start even then. :(
