I have re-installed ubuntu on my computer....now i should have removed the old one..right? and that i should have done in the manual partitioning...to remove the old one...i downloaded limewire and have had trouble ever since....i know now not to download something unless its in the add/remove application....i removed it and wrote something in the terminal that i was told to to help clear it up....then a few days later pc went a little silly...said i had file system error....do a fsck....i did...then i was told that i should have done that from the live cd which i just got today..so now have loaded a new ubuntu and want to know how to clear out the old one...im starting over...please lend me a hand .....very much appreciated...newbie newbie...what cha gonna do wit me ;)

No I doubt if the old one uninstalled at all if the op didn't ask it to.

You can check by running this in a terminal

sudo fdisk -l

Post the output here - I will check on your forum thread assuming you used same name.

Nothing on the forum but other questions here.

I'd suggest the real forum at ubuntuforums.org - you get quicker responses there - you canuse the same username (as I speak) because there is no allysmart there.

Basically you are going to need to run a partition editor and remove the old installation but it's probably better to do that in 'real time'

Good luck.

if you want to see which partition your linux in, just type mount on the command line

the '/' should be your linux ... just copy paste the result here.

From your mount you are using sda6 which wqould imply to me that the swap is sda7, swap is a bit immaterial as if you delete the wrong one you can get it to use the other simply enough.

"i feel like such a dummy.....honestly...you must be thinking why does this person even have a computer...."

don't let anyone make you feel that way :)
