having trouble loading and when i run check says file system has errors...i have the live cd finally..had to go find it at my dads...now i need to know what to do

i have gone ahead and reinstalled ubuntu....but shouldn't i delete the old one so i have that space back?? if so how do i do this

You could delete that partition which the older version was installed directly in Ubuntu, don't forget to update / reinstall the GRUB.
