After installing Xfce and Cinnanom there is no wheel icon when I logout to choose WM.

Asked by chris pollock

I installed Xfce and Cinnamon this afternoon. After doing that I logged out and then went to log on to one of the other WMs. The 'wheel icon' that will give me a menu of which WMs I have installed is not present. If I restart the system the icon is there allowing me to log into another WM, but only if I restart and only once. This is Ubuntu 16.04.1LTS, Gnome 3.18.3

I have just now discovered that although the 'wheel icon' is not present or at least doesn't appear to be I can mouse click where is should be and the WM listing comes up. So, it appears that possibly the icon is there however it's the same color gray as the background. I guess the next part of my question should then be how to change the color of the log-in screen background?
