Cannot get any OpenOffice application to open

I have tried to open OpenOffice applications in a new install. I have removed and reinstalled the OO.o apps. I still cannot get them to open. I can open them on a different computer that was upgraded to 8.04. I can't seem to get them to open on this new install.

Ubuntu 8.04LTS; AMD Athlon 63 X2 (32 bit install); 2 GiB dual channel RAM

Have you try a launch via Terminal? If yes was there an output?

Using [alt]+[f2] I could not get it to open.

Just use Alt+F2-->gnome-terminal-->openoffice

Are there any output?

still not output. I is like the application is not there execpt for the icons in the Applications pulldown.

Ok now it opens, and when it did it opened about 30 screens of different OO.o applications. Sort of alll at once it all started up.
