no mp3 sound in open office (impress) in ubuntu 8.04

Asked by nalinib

In open office 2.4 which is part of ubuntu 8.04, I have created a presentation in "impress".

This presentation contains "mp3" sound.

The presentations runs but no sound is heard.

Initially I could not run mp3 file in default media player. Then I installed the relevent codecs and now I can play mp3 files in media player.

But "impress" presentation still does not play mp3 sound (It does play sounds that are built in impress (probably wav).

* WHEN I OPEN MEDIA PLAYER IN IMPRESS BOTH MEDIA PLAYER AND IMPRESS DO PLAY THE MP3 SOUND.

But I wish impress should play mp3 sound without having required to open first the media player.

Is it possible ? If not in this version then in the next version of Ubuntu ?

Thanks a lot

Extremely sorry there is 1 error in question.

I had wriiten
"* WHEN I OPEN MEDIA PLAYER IN IMPRESS BOTH MEDIA PLAYER AND IMPRESS DO PLAY THE MP3 SOUND"

But the fact is impress does not play mp3 file in presentation though media player does play.

So the status is impress is silent when mp3 file is included in a presentation.

Sorry for the inconvinience caused.

You need to have Java and the Java Media Framework mp3 plug-in installed.

I can't say whether the suggestion solves my problem because I no longer use ubuntu 8.04 and bundled open office.

I am using ubuntu 10.04 and bundled open office.
