Nautilus locks desktop up when clicking "Location Options" icon

Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release: 16.04

chris@localhost:~$ apt-cache policy nautilus
nautilus:

  Version table:

When clicking the "Location Options" icon on the top right bar the menu will drop down however after that the system will lock up. The clock will stop (I have mine set to display seconds). In order to get back to normal I have to Ctrl-Alt-F1 login and run killall nautilus then Ctrl-Alt-F7 back to the Gnome desktop.

I tried capturing a debugging log via G_DEBUG="all" NAUTILUS_DEBUG="All" nautilus however there was no output to the terminal using this command.

If you log in as the guest account, is it OK there?

It seems to work fine using the 'guest' account I created.

After the upgrade yesterday evening to kernel 4.4.0-36 this worked fine. This morning, after attempting to log-in to other WMs (another question) which failed I had to do a restart. Now this problem is back again. When this happens the system is essentially 'locked up'. The clock is stopped (I have it showing seconds) the only thing that will move is the mouse cursor. Syslog is still being written to however there is no information written to it reference this.
