I/O error

im a new user of ubuntu 8.04 LTS desktop edition n the vendor said can try it 1st without install it on hd.i put the cd in the cd drive n reboot it.after set the language it come to a menu.i select the 1st option n 1/2 min later I/O error pop out.it said reboot it and i press ok.the same thing appear every time i go to the same menu bar.any suggestion??
