Installing drivers
I am working on some DELL computers that were donated to a private school. They were donated by a branch of the military and therefore had to be wiped completely clean. This means they are blank...no operating system or anything. As suggested by someone, I am attempting to install the Ubuntu operating system. My question is .....when I researched how to reinstall Windows 2000 Professional, the Dell representative said I also had to install 4 drivers: chipset, video, network, and audio and that these were to be installed after I installed Win 2000 Prof. Since I am not installing Win 2000 Prof and want to install Ubuntu, do I still need to install the drivers? I am assuming that I do. I installed Ubuntu and attempted to install the drivers but of course it couldn't because they were .exe files. So I tried to install them with WINE and it gives me the following message:
The Intel(R) chipset software installation utility requires a supported chipset platform running on a supported operating system. Check the system requirements section of the README.TXT file for more information.
In the README.TXT file it states:
2. One of the following operating systems must be
fully installed and running on the system
before installing this software:
Windows* 98SE 4.10.2222 (Original Release)
Windows* Me 4.90.3000 (Original Release)
Windows* 2000 5.00.2195 (Original Release)
Windows* XP 5.10.2600 (Original Release)
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
