how to reinstall Ubuntu 8.04

Asked by fernando

By pulling out the network cable with the computer running, I believe I corrupted my Ubuntu 8.04.

Can I reinstall a new 8.04 distribution on top of the 8.04 I am using?
How can I do it?
Thanks for the help.

Hello Fernando,

I doubt you could possibly have corrupted your copy of ubuntu by pulling out the network cable, maybe something else happened. What makes you say it has been corrupted? Could you give more details on the errors you are getting?

However, if you really want to reinstall 8.04, you can just restart the installation procedure by booting off the CD (just like you did the first time). Depending on how you partitioned your drive, you might have to perform backups of your personal data in order not to loose it while reinstalling.

Cheers,

Nicolas

Thank you very much for taking the time to send me an answer.
You are probably right that I might have not corrupted the Ubuntu 8.04 in my computer. But because this is a computer I am using only to get familiar with Ubuntu and nothing else, I have nothing to back up.
It is easier for me to just start again and not have this “corrupt system idea” in the back of my mind.

This is my first request for help and I am really surprised and grateful for having had a response.
Thank you very much again for your information.
