I HAVE UBUNTU INSTALLED AND ALSO TRIES TO USE MY NOKIA E61 AS A MODEM TO CONNECT BUT CANT

1.I HAVE UBUNTU 8.04 INSTALLED SIDE BY SIDE WITH MY WINDOWS.I CAN DUAL BOOT,BUT THE PROBLEM IS IN WINDOWS,I DO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET USING MY NOKIA E61 AS MODEM THROUGH THE USB CABLE.BUT IN UBUNTU,WHEN I DO THE SAME,I CANT CONNECT TO THE INTERNET.IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WORKING.WHAT DO I DO HERE?

2.I CANNOT PLAY DVD'S OR VCD'S ON IT.IT ONLY PLAYS AUDIO CD'S.

3.IT DOES NOT SUPPORT OTHER APPLICATIONS THAT RUNS IN WINDOWS TO RUN ON IT ALSO

1) Probably there are no drivers for it. Try to run "sudo lshw" in the command line (Terminal). If you see the Nokia device as UNCLAIMED then for sure Ubuntu has no drivers for it by default.

2) Make sure the packege "libdvdread3" is installed. Try "aptitude search libdvd". If you see something other than "i" is probably not installed.

3) Windows applications are supported through the wine package. Do "aptitude install wine" to install it but have in mind that not all windows applications are supported yet.

I found a link that may help you troubleshoot the problem. I do not have a Nokia E61 but this guy has successfully connected his linux bi\ox to the internet using the E61 as a modem:

i like to use ubuntu. now i'm huge internet user. so i want to know installation procedure of nokia 3500c EDGE modem. please provide me software if necessary. thanx
