using the Live cd to installubuntu often creates issues. I usually use the alternate installer whenever i install. The live CD is great for getting a feel for Ubuntu and seeing if your hardware is supported but IMHO the alternate installer does the job of installing a lot better.

you can download it from any of the mirrors
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors

make sure you checksum the iso before burning it and burn at a low speed. after burning it be sure to sheck the integrity of the burned cd.

if you need more help in partitioning and setup the Ubuntu Community Forums are an excellent source of help.

I also have a wipro 7b1630 laptop. I also tried to install ubuntu 8.04. My computer didnt get stuck. It passed the orange bar phase. But when it comes to hard disk partition operation , it is not able to detect my laptop hard disk. So I installed fedora 7.

Can you help with this problem?
