No SHUTDOWN screen and sound

Hi there,

I recently upgraded my system from Ubuntu 7.10 to Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) thro' DVD. Things are looking fine except that I am not able to see shutdown screen, instead it shows all the process in a text mode. Also I'm not able to hear log-off or shutdown sound. I'm able to hear other sounds though.

Please help!

If you don't mind can you cross check the steps related to upgrading Ubuntu 7.10 to Ubuntu 8.04 either from

Well, issue has been resolved. Now it is displaying shutdown & startup splash screen.

I added "vga=773" (without quotes) in kernel options in menu.lst file which is in /boot/grub.

Shutdown sound is still not playing though.
