Wiping Vista

Asked by pupton

Hi

I am new to all this and am investigating Ubuntu. I have tried the Live CD and like it a lot. I HATE Vista and have tried many times to get rid and install XP. However, I get stuck because my HDD is not recognised/found as the XP disc I have doesnt include the drivers ... does that sound right?

Anyway, Ubuntu seems a great alternative and I would like to do a fresh install and get rid of Vista ... will I encounter the same problem or does Ubuntu format the disc etc for me?

Basically, If I install Ubuntu as a single OS, do I need anything else other than the CD?

Thanks

Paul :-)

nope, if you just install ubuntu you can tell it to erase everything else on the disk (vista in your case) and it will install as the single os.

Hello

Yes formatting C: is sufficient to remove windows and for doing a clean install please refer:

Enter this command in a DOS Prompt

format C:\ /Q

/Q, Performs a quick format and additional drive space will be obtained

Please refer the below link for installing ubuntu

Hey guys

I have successfully wiped Vista and installed Ubuntu...I am really pleased with it so far, only been a few days and things are starting to make sense.
I have noticed an immediate improvement in speed and apart from a little issue with an external hard drive not mounting ('cos it hadnt been cleanly unhooked from windows...and I solved this with the help of launchpad) then I have had no problems at all.

Thanks for your help and assistance ... I will no doubt call on your expertise again.
