[wishlist] Ubuntu grid

Asked by CristianCantoro

Hi,
I've just started using "Vinagre" Remote desktop tool and I've found it very nice.
I was wondering: what about a system to allow people to share their own PCs resources among them?
I mean maybe a part of my hard disk is free and so I can make it available for every other user in the project. In the moment I'll need an extra space for some reason I can access this "grid" and request for it.
I was thinking at something for disk space or other resources, like what BOINC is for distributed computing (well, these are computing resources).
Note that this will be different from P2P systems: user don't share the files, they share the disk space.
Ok, I think it's a little an utopian project... but that's it! (the idea come from "The Grid" that is being built among universities to share resources (not only computing resources as far as I've understood) for CERN's LHC experiments).
