video conversion and nokia n810

Asked by Jim Hutchinson

I've been eying one of these for a couple months now (the Nokia n810 that is). One of the reasons I'm looking at it is that can function as a small media player. I thought it would be useful trips to keep the kids quiet and still be useful for email and such.

However, I'm wondering how difficult it will be to convert video from my computer (much of it ogg theora) to a usable format for the n810. There is software for the n810 to convert video but it's only windows/mac software leaving us Linux users in the dark (odd given that the unit itself runs Linux).

Can anyone help clear up my options and whether or not the n810 will do what I want if I only have Linux?

If there is some other gadget out there I should consider please let me know.

Thanks.
