https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/DellInspironB130

This page suggests that support is there for this model Dell for Hardy Heron Ubuntu 8.04.

Have you tried downloading and running the "liveCD" which allows you to try Ubuntu without actually making any changes to your system?
This will show you if you have network working and enabled through wired or wireless ethernet.

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

If you have no bandwidth problems, I would recommend also downloading the "alternate CD" which will work even if the "liveCD" has issues.

Hope this helps.

NewfieLinux,

Hardy Heron 8.04 is the latest release of Ubuntu. 8.04 = April 2008 released. Ubuntu releases are named in alphabetic sequence. So Gutsy Gibbon was the 7.10 (i.e. October 2007) release.

If you go to (using your existing internet browser)
http://www.ubuntu.com/
and click 'Desktop Edition', then 'download' at the bottom of the resultant page, you will then be able to select either Standard or 64 bit (according to whether you have a 32 bit or 64 bit i.e. dual core) processor before choosing a location and clicking 'Start Download'. This will download an approx 700mb iso image (will fit on a cd) which you then burn onto a cd.

If you boot from this cd (remember to change you bios settings appropriately), it will allow you to test if you PC (including wireless) works under Ubuntu. If everything looks OK, you can then install Ubuntu. I believe that you can install Ubuntu under Windows now using software called WUBI. I suggest you explore the Ubuntu web site for details. I don't use Windows at all, so I am not able to advise you on this. What I did was to backup all my data to dvd under Windows, install Ubuntu on the whole hard disk (an option when installing Ubuntu), and then copy the backup cd data to hard disk. For connection to xbox I have no idea, as I don't have one.

I suggest you register on http://ubuntuforums.org/ for answers to questions about wubi & xbox connection.

Hardy Heron is the name given to the 8.04 version of Ubuntu.
This is a Long term support release (LTS) which means that there will be patches release for many years to come.

Every 6 months a new version of Ubuntu is released and the version number is based on the year "2008" and month "04".
So 8.04 is an April 2008 release of Ubuntu.

You should get this release.
