Howto: Mount multi-partition external in same place every time

Asked by Kevin Kubasik

When mounting an external drive with 3 partitions, I get different mount points/device names every time I mount.

For example:
Partitions 1,2, and 3
/media/disk
/media/disk-1
/media/disk-2

However, every time the drive is remounted, the partitions get mounted at a different mountpoint, this makes my life very difficult as I keep things like my music on the external drive, and constantly updating banshee's info to point to the new mountpoint can be frustrating.

The following page details how you can change the volume label on the partitions, as a result they will be mounted using consistent names under /media/

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RenameUSBDrive

So for example you could label one partition "MUSIC" which would mount it under /media/MUSIC whenever the device is plugged in.
