cannot make tv tuner work

Asked by dumpa

Hi,
I'm trying to watch tv in HP Pavilion s3320f, I have a tv tuner which works on windows.
I installed ubuntu hardy. I tried installing mythtv and mythbuntu within hardy.
but haven't been able to get to watching tv. I see no errors but can not where is that you watch tv.
I suspect that my tv tuner is not recognized.

I don't know where to look which tv tuner is installed in my computer.

please if someone knows how can I get this working I'll appreciate,
thanks,

Juan

The tv tuner is a ViXS PureTV-U 48A3 (NTSC/ATSC Combo).

Is there a package that includes this?

Hi dumpa,

I gave up with MythTV after wrestling with it for days on end. It really is intended for the video junkie who wants to set up a dedicated media centre capable of recording tv from remote access, and needs a resident nerd.

I can't help you with your specific TV tuner, but strongly recommend that you look in the repositories for MeTv. First you need to add the following repository into your sources (System : Administration : Software Sources)
http://ppa.launchpad.net/lamothe/ubuntu hardy main

Then (Applications : Add/Remove) and search for digital television, or for MeTv. Once installed, mine found the TV card automagically, and everything 'just works'. Depending on your location, you might have to twiddle with some things to get the right electronic program guide, but there's plenty of help if you search for it.

Good luck

Ian

Thanks Ian, I tried MeTV without any luck.

MeTV tells me "no tuner device". It couldn't find the tuner.
