2 installations, how to get rid of one?

Asked by Stephanie

I installed Ubuntu 7.10 on my computer, but it froze after displaying
error bcm43xx microcode5.fw not found
So I installed it again. It worked this time, but now I have two file systems with the same files.
How can I fix it, and what to do if it freezes again with the same error.
Thank you,
Stephanie

(also I partitionned my disk, trying to save my files. I would like to try to find my files I had on my Vista system, if it's still possible).
Thanks

That all depends on how your disk is partitioned.

You can view this using gparted

sudo apt-get install gparted
sudo gparted

How many partitions can you find?
If they are still visible to gparted, you may be able to mount and access them from Ubuntu.
Or alternatively delete them if they are no longer required.

I'd also recommend using a little add-on for the toolbar which provides an icon for every mountable partition available.
Right-click on the grey toolbar on the top of screen and choose "Add to Panel", find "DIsk Mounter" and click Add button, then close.
You can click or right-click the icons that have now appeared on the toolbar to mount and open any non mounted partitions.
Note this also shows USB drives as they are connected.

Can you help with this problem?
